With children visiting on school vacation and trying to find some fun reading for them to do (to be able to compete successfully against the iPad), I was looking for any sports-themed book for kids where the writing has spark - and with this book, I feel like I struck gold. I ordered Baseball: A Ticket To The Bigs (Kindle version) after looking at a preview and immediately realizing the writing and wit are of very high quality.My 11-year-old nephew started the book one evening, had to be practically forced to stop reading at bedtime, and didn't put the book down the next day until he was finished. I heard him laugh out loud so many times, I decided to read the story myself. I started it last night, stayed up late reading, and just finished it this morning. It is what I call "rollicking fun". I'd love to see a film made of this story.
I recommend this book 1000%. This work is proof that one can write an outstanding thoroughly modern story without any swear words, sex, and violence, making it a reliable, healthy, fun read for any age kid. As mentioned in the title, this is an easy fun read for us adults, too. I see from the author's profile that he is a parent and teacher - in fact, after looking at Raymond Bean's profile (shown below from Raymond Bean's author's page), I am about to order some more books by Raymond Bean!

it was good but I think it's just a bit weird and unfair at the end Will should have put the ticket in ALL the cards but awesome story
I'm a pretty big baseball fan so if you don't really like baseball you won't really like this book but overall it's a pretty good book
I really enjoyed the book it had a deranged head coach. Named will pazell as head coach and fun police morgan st. John.
My son happens to be a huge baseball fan. But the book is very entertaining and would work well for any child on that reading level. My son and I read some together each night!
Raymond Bean Baseball A ticket to the bugs. For me a great funny story. Read it because there was no game on the radio. Yet I got a winning game. Thank you for a winning read.
I gave this book to my 10 year old, sports-fanatic nephew as a gift. He called and said the book was "AWESOME". He went on to say that if he could, he would tell the author that "he does a great job writing really fun books for kids". My nephew has read the "School is a Nightmare" series on his , and his next book is going to be Mr. Bean's "Benji Franklin-Kid Zillionaire".
This a funny, light hearted story about boy who loves baseball and an eccentric billionaire. There are obvious nods to Charlie and the Chocolate factory in the book, but they fit the narrative well.
The book is a chapter book written for kids, but adults will be able to relate to ball players who feel over the hill.
As a teacher I would recommend this book for any beginning fluent reader who likes baseball or sports. The chapters are short and the story moves quickly, which will help a lot of reluctant readers.
If you're an adult who enjoys baseball I would recommend this for a short and fun read about the sport.
